Rochester Rhinos vs. Minnesota Thunder
Match Preview - August 16, 2008
Rochester Rhinos vs. Minnesota Thunder
The Rochester Rhinos host the Minnesota Thunder at PaeTec Park on Saturday night, in a match that features the 6th and 7th place teams in the USL First Division. Kick-off is slated for 7:35pm.
The Rhinos are coming off of a frustrating 1-0 defeat to their arch rival, the Montreal Impact. The loss prolongs the Rhinos winless streak to 4 games (0-3-1) which comes after the Rhinos went on a 7 match unbeaten streak (5-0-2). With their recent slide, the Rhinos record currently reads 7-8-8, with 7 matches remaining in the 2008 season.
Minnesota, on the other hand, is coming off of a 3-1 win over the Seattle Sounders last Sunday at National Sports Center. The Thunder have gone unbeaten in their last 3 matches (2-0-1). They are led by Ricardo Sanchez, who has recorded 8 goals and 4 assists this season. Melvin Tarley has also had a fair share of success for the Thunder this season, finding the back of the net 7 times this season. Nicolas Platter has manned the pipes for Minnesota this season, posting a 7-9-6 record with a 1.27 GAA and 5 shutouts.
Last 5: The Rhinos are 1-3-1 in their last 5 matches. The Thunder are 3-1-1 in their last 5 matches.
All-Time: The Rhinos are 10-3-1 all-time against Minnesota, and are 5-1 all-time in Rochester against the Thunder.
This Season: The Rhinos are 1-1 against the Thunder this season. They dropped a 1-0 defeat to the Thunder on May 4, before returning to Minnesota to quiet the Thunder 1-0 on July 20.
Deduction: The Rhinos have been deducted 1 point by the USL for playing midfielder Andrew Gregor in a match against Puerto Rico on August 8. Gregor, who was supposed to be serving his yellow card accumulation suspension that night, mistakenly served his suspension during the August 8 game at Puerto Rico when the league mandated that he serve it on August 10 at home against Puerto Rico.".
Bye Bye, Boom Boom: The Rhinos released popular midfielder Rey "Boom Boom" Martinez on Friday for what is being described as "disciplinary reasons." We at www.RhinosZone.com wish Rey the best of luck in his future endeavors.
